Diaspora Community On Voting Rights

The Kenyan community in the diaspora has insisted on electronic voter registration and voting, to enable them participate in the 2012 general election, from abroad. The estimated 3.1 million voters have been granted by the new constitution the right to take part in the polls, as well as dual citizenship, after decades of struggle. The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission(IEBC) has proposed that Kenyan embassies and consuls be used as polling stations in next year\'s electoral exercise, a move the Kenyan community living abroad terms logistically punitive and costly.
