Taking you back one year ago same time like this when we celebrated Mother’s Day. If we are to collect feedback on how you spent the day and what special treat you gave your dear mom or wife, I am sure the list would be endless and many would even wish they could do much more and on daily basis. Many mothers recalls; that one important phone call you made, a nice treat at buffet, the memorable trip you made with the whole family, beautiful flowers delivered at the doorstep, a help in the kitchen or cleaning the laundry, gift cards or expensive shopping you bought to fill her fridge.

One unusual thing that majority remembers is “Tag of Love” between men and women at Christ Covenant Church where dozens of women were challenged by 13 strong and energetic men. Though women came out as winners it was later discovered that they had secretly agreed to put their husbands on diet a week before mother’s Day. Men later discovered that rice, spaghetti and Pizza appeared on the menu more than three times within one week. Men also did not know whenever there is a debate or a game in the family kids normally team up with their mother to play against dad. Tag of Love was not an exceptional game and this worked so well in favor for women.

The other problem with African men is that they have been trained to provide and protect their wives especially when a woman screams for help. You may not believe it when I say women are the most powerful people on earth and they know akili mingi na nguvu kidogo will always give you better results. We can confirm this from the book of Judges 16 when Samson fell for Delilah, a woman from the Valley of Sorek, it marked the beginning of his downfall and eventual demise. It is unfortunate this report came to our newsroom too late before we could warn men to participate deciding menu for this week. Kitchen rules are like politics, you must contribute before decisions are made. Once decision is made you must follow or face the consequences. As you celebrate this year mother’s Day, three things you must do to make it memorable for her: Remember it is not enough to think about her you must say it. Let her know how much you appreciate what she has done in your life, Practice to give back and Live to fulfill her dream. For husbands, the best gift you can give to her is to love her and her children. Like I said, it is not enough to think about it you MUST say the “four letter word”. If you can’t, the secret of life is to fake it until you make it.

Message to all mothers, you have all the power and ability to change the world by bringing up your kids in a christian way and training them to be responsible adults. Mothers have the ability to influence their kids to be the person they want them to be. Dr Bernice Berry puts it this way, "We need to recognize we are all in positions of power, whatever we're doing. Homemakers, mothers, teachers, nurses -- we have to learn to use that to create the world we want to see. Once we support and love each other, we will be the prime ministers."

The leaders we pray for to liberate our nation will be guided by the core values we teach our kids. Parents must speak blessings about their kids and let them know they are not their freinds but dadies and mummies. You don't have to be freinds with your kids in order for them to love you. An often-quoted proverb on parenting states that you spare the rode you spoil the child. Yellow lights comes before red lights. It is okay and it is bibilcal to discipline your child when you see "yellow lights" in his or her behaviour. Wahenga walisema, usipo zipa ufa utajenga ukuta.

"He who spareth the rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him correcteth him betimes" (Proverbs 13:24) and "Withhold not correction from a child: for if thou strike him with the rod, he shall not die. Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and deliver his soul from hell." (Proverbs 23:13-14)
